Nugget 282

I collected the latest edition of THE NUGGET (N282) from the printer this morning, and I hope to post it out to members of Wargame Developments later today or early tomorrow morning.

I have already uploaded the PDF versions of THE NUGGET and THE NUGGET COLOUR SUPPLEMENT to the Wargame Developments website, and they are available for members of Wargame Developments to read online or to download and print.

IMPORTANT: Please note that this is the ninth issue of THE NUGGET to be published for the 2014-2015 subscription year, and that members who have not already re-subscribed can still do so if they want to. This can be done by visiting the relevant page on the Wargame Developments website. A printed reminder will also be sent out with this issue to all subscribers who have not yet re-subscribed.

Congratulations on your well-deserved Flaming Pig Award!
Though I confess it a strange choice of title as at one time the 'flaming pigs' were quoted to symbolise everything that was wrong with WRG…

    Best wishes,

  2. Arthur1815 (Arthur),

Getting the award was a surprise … and rather humbling.

I didn't know the origins of the expression 'flaming pigs' with regard to WRG. Thanks for informing me!

    All the best,

'Flaming pigs' – apparently the releasing of tar-covered pigs that had been set on fire to disrupt an enemy mentioned in some ancient treatise, and available in the WRG army lists – was cited as an example of the atypical 'wonder weapon' for competition play permissible under WRG rules that epitomised what many thought was an inappropriate emphasis on weapon technology &c. in WRG rules.

Hence my surprise at its use in the context of your award.

  4. Arthur1815 (Arthur),

Thanks for the explanation. Does this mean that the people who voted for me think that I am WD's 'secret weapon' that will defeat all the competition? If so, then I think that they are going to be sadly disappointed.

    All the best,

  5. Nigel Drury says:

There was a memorable lawn game at an early COW that demonstrated the effectiveness of the flaming pig.

  6. Nigel Drury,

I must have missed that COW session, although it sounds like the sort of game that Pasdy would have organised.

    All the best,

  7. Delta Coy says:

Decided it was time I had better rejoin WD. Apologies for my slackness over the years.

    Regards Greg

  8. Delta Coy (Greg),

    Welcome back!

    All the best,
